The Perkins Freshman and JV football teams faced a tough challenge against Villa Angela-St. Joseph (VASJ), gaining valuable experience against a quality opponent. The Freshman Pirates fell 32-6, but there were several bright spots throughout the game. Maverick Mallot stood out on both sides of the ball, making an impact offensively and defensively. The offensive line also continued to improve as the game progressed, settling in and playing better in the second half during their first action against a strong opponent. The JV game was cut short due to weather, with Perkins trailing 16-0 when the game was canceled. Despite the shortened contest, several players showed their versatility and effort. Fred Taylor stepped up to play multiple positions, contributing at receiver, running back, safety and cornerback. Defensively, Raji Randleman played a strong game and made several tackles, while Davon Johnson also made his presence felt with a solid defensive performance. While the results were not what the Pirates hoped for, both teams gained valuable experience and will look to build on the positives as the season continues.
