The Perkins volleyball team saw its postseason run come to an end Thursday evening, falling to Lake in straight sets, 25-18, 25-23, 25-19, in the Division IV District Final. The district championship appearance marked the Pirates' first trip to the district final since 2021. Lake, which featured nine seniors on its roster, proved to be a tough opponent, but Perkins battled throughout the match. The Pirates faced an early deficit in the opening set and were unable to take the lead. Perkins responded in the second set, jumping out to an early advantage and putting pressure on the Flyers. However, Lake managed to rally late and take the set 25-23. In the third set, the two teams battled to a 6-6 tie before Lake found its rhythm and began to pull away. The Flyers built a 17-10 advantage and maintained control to close out the match and secure the district championship. Viera Walker led the Pirates offensively with 17 kills, while Addi Mason contributed 12 kills and nine digs. Braelyn Davie orchestrated the Perkins offense with 40 assists, and Avisi Gehlot led the defensive effort with 12 digs. Despite the loss, Perkins put together an outstanding season, finishing with a 19-5 overall record and earning a share of the Northern Ohio Conference Lake Division championship. The Pirates also carried plenty of momentum into the district final, winning five consecutive matches leading up to Thursday's contest. The future looks bright for Perkins volleyball, as the Pirates will return their entire roster next season. With no seniors on this year's team, the experience gained from this postseason run provides a strong foundation for another opportunity to compete for a championship.
